When cleaning and maintaining your brass door knocker, it’s best to avoid using any high abrasive cleaning cloths, metal brushes, or steel wool. Using cloths made out of the aforementioned materials will result in scratching your door knocker. To prevent tarnishing, use a soft towel or microfibre cloth with a small amount of linseed oil or mineral oil.
Depending on the type of door knocker you purchase, the installation guides will differ slightly. Some door knockers require 1 hole and threaded bolt, others require more. You will receive a detailed installation guide with your purchase.
This is a decision that only you can make, however there is a general consensus that the door knocker should sit between 4 – 5 feet high. When you have decided on the height, you will need a ruler to find the horizontal center. You will then be able to drill your hole(s).
